COVID-19 Antibody Tests

SARS-CoV-2 antibody (often referred to as serology) tests look for antibodies in a sample to determine if an individual has had a past infection with the virus that causes COVID-19. COVID-19 antibody tests can help identify people who may have been infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus or have recovered from a COVID-19 infection.
At this time, researchers do not know whether the presence of antibodies means that you are immune to COVID-19; or if you are immune, how long it will last.
IgM and IgG are immunoglobulins produced by the immune system to provide protection against SARS-CoV-2. Anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgM and IgG can therefore be detected in samples from affected patients.
Serological methods for 2019-nCoV-specific IgM&IgG antibody testswere well approved in clinical setting.
The first antibody produced by the immune system during a viral infection is IgM. A positive IgM antibody test indicates that the virus may be present and that your body has started the immune response. When IgM is detected you may currently be infected, or you may have recently recovered from a COVID-19 infection.

COVID-19 Vaccine Immunity Test: This test looks for COVID-19 spike protein antibodies in a blood sample. All currently available vaccines use the spike protein to produce an immune response. A positive antibody result indicates that you have produced antibodies in response to the vaccine or past COVID-19 infection.
